Apart from recreational activities of members are linked with welfare-oriented
activities and run the following projects:
a. Educational Project: Uttara Ladies Club Free Primary School is a project
for the underprivileged children of the neighborhood locality. This school is in
existence since the establishment of the club, and runs six classes starting from
nursery to class V. The teaching is absolutely free. The students are provided with
school dress, reading and writing materials, school bags & tiffin snacks. In the
winter season, the students get warm clothes like jackets, sweaters, blankets etc at
free of cost. Stipends are awarded to the first three position holders in yearly
examinations for Class II, Class III and Class IV students.
b. Free Medical Clinic: For the students of Free Primary School, Uttara
Ladies Club provide free medicine whenever they fall sick. One of members, who is
professionally a medical practitioner, looks after the health and hygiene of the
students. This project also arranges free inoculation, vaccination and vitamin A
capsules.
c. Legal Support Center: Uttara Ladies Club runs a legal advisory service set
up, bearing in mind about the social responsibilities. Discrimination and violence are
affecting the lives of many women and children in all socio-economic classes.
Women are continued to be the subject of violence like physical abuse, dowry-
related matters and sexual harassment. The clients also come for maintenance and
restitution of conjugal rights and marital problems. They get counseling and
mediation (Shalish). One lawyer of BNWLA (Bangladesh National Women Lawyers
Association) work in this project. The Executive Director BNWLA Advocate Salma
Ali who is also an honorary member of the Club provides the lawyer in running this
center within the club premises. The club provides a furnished room with staff. The
clients get all the services at free of cost.
d. Others: Uttara Ladies Club helps the disaster victims also. Whenever there
is natural calamity such as floods, earthquakes and collapse of buildings or fire, we
always collect donations from our members and distribute to the affected people.
All these services rendered by Uttara Ladies Club need substantial funds to pay.
Teachers and staff’s monthly salary and Eid bonus, club utility bills as such
telephone bill, gas bill, WASA bill, the electric bill, garbage bill, maintenance of AC and
generator, buying of stationeries, courier and SMS bill require a regular source of
income which comes from the member’s monthly subscription.
At present, Uttara Ladies Club has total 961 members, of them Honorary members
07, Founder members 08, Donor members 05, Life members 119, Special Life
members 13 and General members 809.

The facilities available for the members of this club are Yoga, Library, indoor
games (playing at cards, table tennis, carroms, ludu etc) and viewing the
program in a 30” inches wall-mounted television. At subsidized rates, the
member can avail of the hall room or any other place within the club premises.
